Muslims at the
University of Leicester are calling on people of all faiths to join them
in a one-day fast for charity.
Followers of Islam are part-way through the holy month of Ramadan, and
must not eat between dawn and dusk.
A national one-day fast is taking place on Thursday, November 11.
All money raised will go towards providing clean water, sanitation, health
care in developing countries, employment opportunities and other
charitable causes.
The following charities will benefit: Human Appeal International, The
Prince's Trust, Target 2015 and Cancer Research.
Ismail Patel is acting president of the University of Leicester Islamic
Society.
He said: "The initiative calls upon the British non-Muslim community
to take part in a one-day fast in Ramadan alongside Muslims to raise money
for those in need."
