The University of Leicester Islamic Society has
demonstrated that when it comes to faith and football, it is in a league of its
own.
The Society recently received the accolade of best
Islamic Society of the Year at a national event.
Now the boys from the University of Leicester Islamic
Society have gone on to win the National Cup Football tournament, which was
organised by Fosis and held at Nottingham University. The tournament, which took
place over the weekend, attracted lot of teams.
Ismail Patel of the Islamic Society, University of
Leicester, said: "The tournament consisted of the 16 top Islamic Society
teams representing their universities. Our boys were up against the likes of De
Montfort University, Nottingham, Salford, Glasgow, Liverpool and many more.
"They made it comfortably through the group stages
and then went on to beat Glasgow University in the quarters, DeMontfort
University in the semis and Salford University in the final on a penalty shoot
out.
"This latest achievement wraps a great year for the
University of Leicester Islamic Society - the society has gone on to become the
most active Islamic Society in the country overtaking Manchester and
Cambridge."
Captain of the Leicester Islamic society team Mohammed
Loonat said: "The boys were fully committed and have worked very hard for
this tournament. After winning the best Isoc of the year award, we wanted to
bring another trophy back to Leicester."
